Oklahoma

Oklahoma is the gateway to the west - a land of red dirt, where buffalo roam the plains and oil rigs pump riches. If you have ever enjoyed the convenience of using a shopping cart while shopping, you can thank Oklahoma where they were invented in 1936. Oklahoma has more man-made lakes than any other state, with over one million surface acres of water. Interestingly enough,in Wynona, mules may not drink out of bird baths and if you wash clothes in this avian spa, it's illegal. Oklahoma has the largest Native American population of any state in the nation. Museums, galleries of international art, and lavish gardens all give the state a more cosmopolitan edge, but many tourists choose to experience Oklahoma with the simple pleasures of a road trip, and it does not get more iconic than the state’s stretch of Route 66.
