Iowa is known for its Hawkeyes, cornfields, pig farms, and rolling hills. While it may seem hard to name any well-known attractions at first thought, there are actually some interesting things to do and see in Iowa. The Amana Colonies, 7 colonies formed by German immigrants in search of religious freedom in the United States. Here you can eat delicious family-style meals, shop in small artisan shops, the Amana Colonies has tons to offer. You can also check out the local art in the many galleries or visit the Iowa River through the biking trails in the area. The Bridges of Madison located in Iowa became notable because of the 1995 film by Clint Eastwood starring himself and Meryl Streep. Film enthusiasts can visit the two bridges used in the film, namely, the Roseman and the Holiwell. You can take tons of stunning photos in the area. You can even recreate some of the scenes. If you would like more of a nature hike you can visit Maquoketa Caves State Park in Jackson County. The Maquoketa Caves State Park has the most number of caves in Iowa and is unique for its ‘back in time’ vibes. You can go hiking inside the park to visit its beautiful caves. Their milk-white stalactites and stalagmites are sure to be unforgettable. One thing many people don’t remember is that a field in Clear Lake is where Buddy Holly, The Big Bopper, and Richie Valens died in a plane crash. Now there is The Day the Music Died Memorial that starts with a large pair of black-rimmed glasses. And last but not least Iowans love their college football teams, most cheering for either the University of Iowa Hawkeyes or The Iowa State Cyclones.
